Vintage 1950s Homer Laughlin Spring Wreath Platter - Republic Shape - circa 1950

Vintage 1950s Homer Laughlin Spring Wreath Platter - Republic Shape - circa 1950

Dear old world you are very lovely, and I am glad to be alive in you. L. Montgomery

{HISTORY}

Here it is! The spring wreath that blooms eternal, year after year after year.  Homer Laughlin's Spring Wreath pattern was first introduced in the 1930s and quickly became a favorite both with customers and also the HL design department, as it was reproduced often on various styles of H.L. dishware over the next several decades.

This particular platter made in 1950 was designed in the Republic shape, which featured a decorative embossed rim similar to two other Homer Laughlin embossed plate designs called Marigold and Virginia Rose. The most rope-like of the three, Republic was a dish shape that was first introduced in the 1910s and was modeled after the Ranson shape produced by the famous French pottery Haviland.  Combining both this elegant embossed design with the ever popular Spring Wreath pattern must have been the ultimate compliment for Homer Laughlin, as they wound up creating a stylish dish that was both rooted in history and pleaseingly popular design.

Interestingly enough, despite the provenance of this dish dating back to the 1910s,  the 1930s, and the 1950s, it still feels remarkably fresh today. Perhaps that is due to its classic lines and its colorful flowers. It's not true - that cliche about beauty fading with age. This one certainly hasn't!
