Vintage Georgia Diner Restaurant Ware Cups circa 1970s-1980s - Set of Two - Queens NY Mainstay

Vintage Georgia Diner Restaurant Ware Cups circa 1970s-1980s - Set of Two - Queens NY Mainstay

Serving classic Greek and American dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1978...

{HISTORY}

Originally, we thought this pair of vintage restaurant ware cups may have come from a diner down South, perhaps in one of the college towns that would have been packed on the weekends with football fans cheering on their favorite college teams. We thought maybe these two were from a famous diner that specialized in peach pie or Vidalia onion rings or fried green tomatoes or the sweetest tea in all of Georgia.

But just like you can't judge a book by its cover, you can't always assume a restaurant's fare based on its name. These two cups were actually made for the Georiga Diner in Queens, New York by Jackson China. A mainstay for over 40 years, the Georgia Diner opened at 86-55 Queens Blvd in 1978 and these cups were a part of that first wave of dishware to welcome guests.

Not only are they a fun piece of American diner memorabilia, but they are also a fun souvenir from the Georgia Diner itself, which is still in business today, and is still serving up endless cups of tea and coffee. In 2018, the Georgia Diner moved a few blocks down the street to a new location, but its reputation for serving classic diner food in a convivial atmosphere has never changed.

Both the logo and the airbrushed styled rims and handles feature a lovely shade of espresso - the perfect match for a hot cup of coffee, a creamy latte, or a cozy cup of tea. Handsome, sturdy, and full of personality, as with all vintage restaurant ware made for classic diners, these cups are a functional and fun part of nostalgic Americana.
