Antique Cast Iron Dog Boot Scraper Doorstop - Dachsund Dog Shape

Antique Cast Iron Dog Boot Scraper Doorstop - Dachsund Dog Shape

{HISTORY}

Meet George! He’s an antique cast-iron boot scraper hailing from the historic city of Savannah, Georgia.

A classic staple of antique-era homes, the cast-iron boot scraper was an essential worker that scraped mud from boots, held doors in place, and generally helped keep the house clean and tidy.

George lived for a long time in an antique shop, where he greeted customers and showcased a display of time-worn doors, modeling both their functionality and his personality.

A very popular style, George is part of a long line of cast-iron Dachshund dog boot scrapers that have been manufactured and reproduced for decades throughout the 20th century. Available in all shapes and sizes, these long dog mud scapers were made all the way up to the early 2000s and even came in miniature form at just 6 inches in length. Sometimes, they were painted in colors, bright and bold, but most often came in dark brown or solid black. George is one of the originals made sometime before the 1920s and features a natural cast iron finish with lovely little age spots, here and there, in rusty shades of orange.

Measuring 13" inches in length and weighing 6.8 lbs, he's a substantial presence in your household and, as is the case with all Dachsunds, he adds a lot of delight to the day. Unmarked as to manufacturer, we can't pinpoint his exact maker but the best antiques come with an air of mystery.

Some pups find it difficult to adjust to new surroundings, but not George. As a shop dog for many years, he loves to greet people. Tuck him into any area of your space where friends and family come and go, and he’ll be as happy as can be. A mud room, a busy corridor, a hallway, a porch, a kitchen full of company, those are the ideal places where he'll feel most at home.
