Antique Windsor Style Children's Potty Chair - Repurposed Plant Stand

Antique Windsor Style Children's Potty Chair - Repurposed Plant Stand

{HISTORY}

Built for the kiddos of the Victorian era, this antique Windsor-style chair is a miniature version of a full size dining chair and ‘made of hardwood with turned legs and a decorative floral relief on the top rail. .

The one exception to its adult counterpart is that this mini chair has a hole cut out of it in the seat signaling that it was built as a portable child’s potty chair long before indoor plumbing and private bathrooms were a part of daily home life.

A pre-cursor to modern commodes, originally this chair would have been placed over a chamber pot and would have had the luxury of being picked up and moved about the house as needed. That house, specifically, where this chair once lived, was a white 1830s-era Georgian farmhouse with green shutters and a view of the gorgeous rolling hills of New England.

Aside from its historical significance and aesthetic value in demonstrating how far modern bathroom fixtures have come over the course of a century, this mini chair now offers another purpose too. The diameter of the hole in the seat is 6.5” inches which also happens to fit perfectly a garden pot of equal size, turning this antique potty chair into a modern-day potted plant stand.

So cute for porches, patios and outdoor gardening spaces, as well as indoor plant arrangements,  this chair adds instant whimsy, history, and character to your space while also acting as a functional plant holder.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

 - Made entirely of wood

- Dark chocolate color palette

{CONDITION}

In lovely antique condition this chair boasts all the hallmarks of weathered wood with notches, dents and wood stain applications built over a century of years. In very strong and sturdy condition, the legs and spindles are in strong shape with no loose areas.

Originally, this chair was made with armrests which are no longer there, but the holes for these pieces are still evident in the seat and the two outermost spindles. These missing armrests do not affect the overall integrity of the chair as it is all still very strong and sturdy.

Please note, if you plan on using this as a plant stand outdoors, we recommend weatherproofing it with a clear varnish to protect the wood.
